Our Chapter at Michigan

The Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) at the University of Michigan is a student organization affiliated with the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. The Michigan Chapter is part of the national Society, a non-partisan, non-for-profit, national organization that seeks to identify, educate, and launch young men and women into foreign policy and national security careers imbued with the Hamiltonian perspective of strong and principled American leadership in global affairs.

Members of the organization have the opportunity to attend biannual foreign and defense policy conferences/forums in Washington D.C., network with professionals in D.C. conferences, green-light internship applications to foreign policy think tank positions, and participate in policy simulations (crisis simulation, wargaming, model diplomacy, etc.) and book seminars throughout the semester. Members also have exclusive access to scholars, policy professionals, and others who are brought to campus to speak and share their insights with the chapter.

AHS as a "Society"

AHS welcomes students with a variety of ideological and political identifications. The society is totally non-partisan, and embodies the principles of free inquiry and the constructive exchange of diverse ideas and perspectives. Being in AHS means that members join many types of programming, such as foreign policy simulations, political theory discussions, speaker events, the Hamiltonian Statecraft publication, as well as professional trainings. Even beyond our academic pursuits, the Michigan Chapter strives to create a sense of community and shared purpose among our members through opportunities to engage in socials and occasional field trips.

Our Focus

Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) at the University of Michigan is part of the national charter, an organization dedicated to launching students into the U.S. foreign policy, international relations, and national security careers. AHS provides resources to dozens of chapters at universities across the country to educate their members on perspectives of principled American leadership in global affairs.

Our chapter asks its members to commit to meeting once a week to discuss and debate the most pressing and complex issues in foreign policy today. Policy simulations, debates, and roundtable discussions are among the myriad of ways members are asked to challenge both themselves and their peers in the search for solutions and the paths forward.

While education and networking are at the heart of the Michigan Chapter's purpose, those interested in increasing their level of involvement can benefit from the expansive opportunities for career advancement with the national organization. Listed below are some of the highlights:
